About "Agosto"
I've been working on “Agosto” for more than three years. It is, without a doubt, my most ambitious novel to date.
Told in a conventional narrative style in which the tragic and the comic constantly go hand in hand, the protagonist — an ordinary guy like the many we might run into walking through Lavapiés or any other central neighbourhood — must unlearn and learn again how to live after a relationship that lasted exactly seven years minus one day, and that ended in a way as abrupt as it was one-sided.
At the same time, this antihero will go through his entire relationship almost surgically, desperately searching for answers about what went wrong and what could have been done better, and above all, trying to unravel the powerful and violent laws that govern love and heartbreak, two opposite poles of the same human experience.
